Founded in 1961, the German Association of the Waste Management, Water and Raw Materials Industry - BDE for short - has around 750 members and covers the entire value chain of the recycling and resource management industry. Uhura Digital Berlin has now relaunched the association's website.

Optimization of the information architecture and a better UX design

The new website offers not only comprehensive information on association topics, which can now be presented in different content types, but also a closed member area - extranet, appointment data and seminars were technically and visually redesigned and implemented by Uhura. Users can also subscribe to a variety of newsletters in order to receive more specific and relevant information from the industry representatives.

Uhura initially audited all content and applications in an inventory of the previous website. In addition, a targeted evaluation of the visitor statistics with analytics and the search intents using Sistrix (Google search analysis) identified content gaps and optimized the information architecture of the website with regard to the user stories.

Thus, the multitude of different contents could be made more searchable and sortable for the users through categorization and tagging solutions. The extranet (log-in area) and seminar registrations were also simplified and improved in their click-through processes and interface design.

Simplified operation - effective publishing process through elegant CMS solutions

But not only the visitors and members were in the focus of the website optimization, also the usability of the CMS (Content Management System) and its modules became more intuitive in handling and therefore easier and faster in the publishing processes.

With the help of dynamic widgets and templates, the BDE can now focus on simply entering content in the CMS and storing it with all data. The website thus draws the most current or concrete content that fits the context of the respective page topics at the right places. Uhura Digital thus created an enormous reduction of work for the press department of the BDE while at the same time dynamizing and optimizing the content, search rankings and search snippets.

Features and functions for search engine optimization of all content were integrated into the CMS and special strategies for better visibility and relevance of content, such as Pillar Pages for topics, were already included in the project concept.

Uhura is already working for various associations, including the Association of German Banks, the BDEW and the association textil+mode, and has already received the V-Award and Best UX at the WebFX Forum for its work.
